Bernd Keller, General Manager at Cree Inc. Santa Barbara Technology Center, received his Diploma (M.S.) in Chemistry in 1987, and his Ph.D. in 1992 from the University of Leipzig, Germany. In 1993, Dr. Keller joined the Electrical Engineering Department of UC Santa Barbara as an Associate Research Engineer. The research of his team on GaN materials and device fabrication lead to the demonstration of the first blue GaN double heterostructure light emitting diode in the USA and world-record performance AlGaN/GaN power field effect transistors. Dr. Keller joined WiTech, a start-up in Santa Barbara, California in 1996. He was leading the company’s gallium nitride optoelectronic and electronic device development programs. Since its merger with Cree Inc. in 2000 he is directing the Santa Barbara Technology Center and focusing on technology and product development of GaN based light emitters and microwave devices. Dr. Keller has 18 years experience in semiconductor materials and device fabrication and has authored or co-authored over 60 journal publications and conference presentations.
